After an awesome season at Fernie, and some great staff days following, including a sweet (though tame) white-water rafting trip, it was time to roll the dice and move on.
After a brief road trip and some time in Banff to catch the final days at Lake Louise and an unexpected Swollen Members show, everything was up in the air as to what to try next.
Some faint recollection that hey Kelowna’s cool, saw the ol Mazda limp into the sun soaked city a few days later. So after a month in nomadic mode I’ve finally started to find my feet again here in Kelowna, BC.
Lake Okanagan
Kelowna is a city of about 100 000 which sits on Lake Okanagan which is 140km long and the scene of much wakeboarding and partying during the summer months. California of the north they call it, and it has lots of great “beaches” so I’m told (anything with sand seems to be generically considered a beach by most of north America) no offense to the yanks and canucks though.
I’ve managed to get full time work at two different places which will be an interesting juggle but one I hope to pull off. The first job I got was bar tending and serving at the most pristine golf course I’ve ever seen, sure puts Coffs Golf course to shame, but hey many things do. The best part of it though is that I get free golf, buggy hire and use of the driving range there and at 3 other courses, (normally 18 holes at this place costs $115 plus $40 for the buggy) which is why i’m determined to keep this job even if I only manage a day a week working there.
The second job I picked up is basically running the pool and lounge bar at one of the big posh hotels on Lake Okanagan with three pool girls to boss around. Which is why I couldn’t just dismiss that off hand either as it could be the cash cow I’m after to get me to Europe.
So I’ve started at the golf course and hit the driving range every chance I get and will go for a round in the next couple of days. Then start at the Grand Okanagan on Monday which should be interesting.
Haven’t managed to find a place yet though in truth I haven’t really been looking. I’ve met quite a few people at the hostel and a couple I might move in with. So for all near and far, once again an open invitation to come visit and spend some quality summer partying time here in Kelowna.
