It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks. Too much fun has been had by all, so much in fact, i can hardly remember where the story begins.
I suppose it all begins with our first ice hockey game, pretty much a biff fest, shirt stick gloves flying. After a restart both teams just went at it, with the goalies slowly skating to the middle, taking off their helmets and whaling on each other. Definitely worth the $5 admission price.
When then had our Lifts Ops party, which was definately a messy affair. Rumour has it the Lift Derpartment out parties anyone else at Fernie Alpine. A ‘Big Lebowski’ themed occasion at a 5 pin bowling alley. Never even knew they existed, maybe it’s a Canadian thing. Basically you just hurl a tennis ball sized bowling ball down the lane with only 5 pins to aim at, and then sneak out to the car park to skol a beer before going again. Were definitely many spills on the ice walking from the alley to the pub that night.
The next day a midday start at the hill saw some of the best conditions all year with plenty of powder to console my hangover. Thankfully Davo forced us to get up there otherwise i’d still be sleeping. That afternoon went on a Roadtrip with some of the other Lifties to Castle Mountain about an hour away. Super steep chutes and lots of awesome cliff drops. But i’m geting some De ja Vu, maybe i’ve already written about this all? Anyway it was great to get out of fernie for the night and take in some new scenery and a wicked mountain. On the way back stopped in to buy some fireworks and stumbled across a liquor store that actually sells Bundy. Had to restrain myself from buying the whole rack, but will definately have to head back there, even if it is a 60km trip just for a bottle of rum.
We were finally blessed with some sunny weather the next week, something that had become a distant memory. Taking advantage of the sunshine we hiked up to the top of the range, Polar Peak at 7000ft, bit of a tough climb but more than worth the effort. Being unprepared we decided to do it again the next day, this time with a bag full of beers, a feast and a poker kit. The temperature had dropped dramatically from the day before when we were up there in tshirts so it didn’t quite work out the best as the beers kept freezing but still a lot of fun.

On a roll, and not looking to stop we got hammered that night on the town, setting off fireworks and then woke up still drunk to build our craft for the Fernie Alpine Resort Cardboard derby. Within two hours and drinking beers the whole time we constructed our craft, a chariot with horse in front that broke apart with 5 seconds but still propelled us to the finish line. Ended up taking out best costume which was pretty cool.

Post-race the drinking continued until i somehow found myself waking up for work the next day half and hour after i was supposed to start, copped a bit of an earful from the boss to say the least.
As though the pain of working that day somehow erased itself from my mind, it kept reoccuring all week. For my 4 days of work i managed a paltry two and a half which was still a constant struggle. This was not entirely my fault as i could quite happily have had curled up and hibernated for a few days. The Big White crew rolled into town though with Ruben Alice, (Davo returning for his trip) and 3 others friends.

Had a good day boarding and with them all and was compelled to hit the town with them that night. Hence hungover at work yet again.
Which nearly brings it up to date though certain things seem to have been omitted from this recap do to time restraints and other factors, memory loss being one of them.
To finish the week went borading yesterday in -20 degree temperatures and managed during the course of a 360 in the park to separate my shoulder, good ol AC joint. So basically things could come to a grinding halt with a 4-6 week injury, but with all the fun that’s been had I just don’t think i can let that happen. Shit happens and there’s no point worrying about it. Gotta get back out there in the -30 degree day
